Bydgoszcz Laboratory Achieve Prestigious PCA Accreditation, Strengthening Global Position

Bydgoszcz, 15th January 2025 – The Quality Control Department Laboratory of the Bydgoszcz Plant at TELE-FONIKA Kable, one of Europe’s key R&D centres, have achieved the prestigious Polish Centre for Accreditation (PCA) accreditation, compliant with PN-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2018-02 standard. This significant accomplishment confirms the high quality of the laboratories’ research and highlights their international reach, further strengthening their role in the global supply chain for cable solutions. The PCA accreditation, awarded following an audit completed in October 2024, verifies that the research conducted in Bydgoszcz meets the highest international standards, enabling worldwide recognition of its test results. This milestone opens new opportunities for TFKable, supporting strategic projects in both onshore and offshore energy sectors.
The laboratories in Bydgoszcz play a vital role in developing innovative cable technologies, particularly in medium and high-voltage areas. PCA accreditation certifies the laboratories' rigorous standards and research precision, allowing TFKable Group to further enhance its global market position.
The laboratories’ activities include:
· Dielectric strength testing of insulation and partial discharge measurements;
· Testing heat cycle resistance and accessory tightness ;
· Testing mechanical and physical property verification of cable materials;
· Structural and dimensional quality control of cable products.
Monika Cupiał-Zgryzek, CEO of TELE-FONIKA Kable and JDR Cable Systems, emphasises: “The PCA accreditation for our laboratories in Bydgoszcz is a testament to our advanced research and innovation capabilities. It opens new prospects for international collaboration and reinforces our leadership in the market.”
The laboratory will play a strategic role in collaboration with other TFKable Group entities, such as JDR Cable Systems in the UK, and will support the forthcoming high and extra-high voltage cable manufacturing plant in Cambois, near Blyth, scheduled to open in 2025.
The Polish Centre for Accreditation is a signatory to the ILAC MRA international agreement, ensuring global recognition of test reports.
Currently, the first phase of expansion at the Bydgoszcz facility is underway. This project includes constructing a 53-metre CCV tower dedicated to producing long high and extra-high voltage cables. This phase is expected to conclude by the end of 2025, and TFKable Group is already preparing for a second expansion phase from 2026 to 2028, which will include further investments in machinery.
The investments in Bydgoszcz encompass not only facility expansion but also the implementation of advanced technologies and innovative production solutions. The expansion of the Research and Technology Centre, with the addition of a new tower and cable bridge designed for the production of long high and extra-high voltage cables, will accelerate the next phase of R&D to develop highly durable inter-array and export submarine cables with extended service life. A key feature of these cables will be enhanced insulation resistance to marine environments, which will play an essential role in advancing power infrastructure connecting offshore wind farms to the mainland.
