TF FLAME-X 950 Series 6 approved by the London Underground

 

To meet the ever increasing passenger demand in the UK’s capital, London Underground will embark on the most ambitious upgrade project in recent years, known as the Deep Tube Upgrade Programme (DTUP).

 

With work starting on the Piccadilly Line next year, the stations will undergo a major upgrade and the existing power systems enhanced ready for the new trains being delivered from 2023 to 2026. The London Underground DTUP programme will also include the Bakerloo, Central and Waterloo & City lines, with completion set for 2034. 

To meet the requirements for new cabling totaling 300km, TFKable Group, already the London Underground approved main supplier of low smoke zero halogen traction feeder cable, now adds their Flame-X 950 Series 6 enhanced fire resistant armoured power cable to the approved range. 

One of the most important factors in any fire situation is to maintain the electrical power supply to life safety and firefighting systems including smoke barriers, extraction fans, smoke and heat exhaust

 

systems, fire-fighters lifts and pumped fire suppression systems.  Flame-X 950 Series 6 cable is already BASEC and LPCB approved to meet the BS8519 highest fire survival category of 120 minutes, suitable for the most critical Category 1 life safety and fire-fighting applications for above ground applications

However, since the tragic fire at King’s Cross St Pancras station in 1987, all products for sub-surface applications (Section 12) stations must meet London Underground’s fire performance standard S1085.   As part of the approval process, our technologists conducted a programme of additional type tests using the most advanced low smoke zero halogen materials to ensure no flaming droplets or flame spread in the event of a fire.  All these specialised tests was verified by third party notified bodies including the UK’s BRE testing establishment.
